12-Year-Old Develops App to Link Ghanaian Farmers and Traders

Young Ghanaian Innovators Make Waves: 12-Year-Old Builds Farmer App, 11-Year-Old Girl Wins AI Award at Coolest Projects 2025
Two young tech geniuses from Ghana are making headlines for all the right reasons. At the just-ended Coolest Projects Ghana 2025, 12-year-old Phil-Manuel Kpobi and 11-year-old Monalisa Akanpaaba emerged as standout innovators with solutions that could shape the future of agriculture and education in Ghana.
12-Year-Old Phil-Manuel Kpobi Wins Favorite Project for Revolutionary Agro App

Phil-Manuel Kpobi, a 12-year-old student from Sterling International School and proud member of the Ghana Code Club, took home the prestigious “Favorite Project” award with his groundbreaking Agro App. This isn’t just any school project—it’s a fully functional app built with the Python-based Flet framework, designed to connect farmers directly to traders.
With Ghana’s farmers facing challenges such as food spoilage, unfair pricing, and inefficient distribution, Phil-Manuel’s app offers a smart solution. The app allows farmers to list their produce online, while traders can find nearby products using location-based search. It even features a built-in chat system for direct communication between both parties, along with real-time order and delivery tracking.
To make the process even smoother, the app supports mobile money payments and lets farmers upload clear images of their crops to attract buyers. His vision isn’t just a tech experiment—it’s a practical tool that has the potential to improve livelihoods and transform how agriculture operates in Ghana.
11-Year-Old Monalisa Akanpaaba Named Rising Star of AI with School Help Buddy

Another bright light at the event was 11-year-old Monalisa Akanpaaba from Bridge Roses Montessori School. As one of the few girls to enter the AI category, she didn’t just participate—she dominated. Her project, “School Help Buddy,” earned her the title of “Favorite AI Project,” and for good reason.
School Help Buddy is an AI-powered learning assistant built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and integrated AI frameworks. It’s designed to support students academically by offering features like an AI Homework Assistant that explains math, science, and English problems. It also includes voice interaction so students can ask questions out loud and receive answers on the spot.

The assistant features an interactive learning mode packed with flashcards, quizzes, and challenges that make studying fun. To help kids manage their time, it even includes a smart study planner with homework reminders and task notifications. Monalisa’s passion, technical skills, and boldness to compete in a space often dominated by boys made her a shining symbol of what’s possible when girls are encouraged to explore STEM.
Ghana’s Coolest Projects 2025: A Launchpad for Future Tech Leaders
Coolest Projects Ghana 2025 attracted over 100 young tech enthusiasts from primary, junior high, and senior high schools across the country. Organized by the Ghana Code Club in partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation UK, the event featured categories like Scratch programming, web development, AI, mobile apps, and robotics.
The global initiative, held in countries including Ireland, Malaysia, and the USA, gives kids the opportunity to showcase their talents while building real-world skills. In Ghana, the creativity and ingenuity on display proved that the country’s youth are not just consumers of technology but active creators and problem-solvers.
A Glimpse into Ghana’s Future
The success of Phil-Manuel and Monalisa is more than just personal achievement—it’s a testament to the power of coding, creativity, and opportunity. With tools like Code Club, dedicated schools, and national showcases like Coolest Projects, Ghana is nurturing a new generation of innovators ready to take on local and global challenges.
These young stars are proof that the future of Ghanaian technology is not only bright—it’s already here.
